The famous composer Richard Strauss, who was also called ‘king of waltz’, toured a lot through Europe. He wrote Pizzicato Polka together with his brother Joseph in 1869 during a stay in Russia.
As the name already tells, the dance, brilliant and humorous, has been written for strings that only play pizzicato, i.e. the strings are plucked with the fingers instead of using a bow. We play
Pizzicato Polka on our flutes, not using any bow for sure!
